To academic staff:
There are already national surveys that include scientific staff, such as the Teacher’s Survey and the Time Use Survey. But there is a need for more qualitative information that can give us more nuanced knowledge and an insight into some of what may be behind the figures presented from national surveys.
At the University of South-eastern Norway (USN), therefore, a qualitative study is now being initiated in which scientific staff from all over Norway are invited to participate. The study is titled Higher education seen from the inside – scientific staff’s experiences and reflections (abbreviated HU knowledge). You can find more information in Norwegian on the study’s website. There you will also find an information video that takes approx. 2 minutes to watch. The aim of the study is to gain more knowledge about what characterizes the work of scientific employees in higher education. We want to bring out the employee ‘”voices” to also have a basis for discussing higher education based on the scientific employees’ own experiences and reflections.
We would like to invite you to participate in the study. We ask you to respond to this online form. Firstly, it consists of a few background variables that take less than 1 minute to respond to. Then we ask you to write a text in which you describe, in your own words, what characterizes the work in higher education. You decide for yourself what you want to emphasize within this topic, how much you want to write, how long the text should be and what kind of text you want to write. The form is anonymous, and no personally identifiable information is collected in the form, so none of what you write can be traced back to you.
We hope you take the time to respond and to write a text – short or long.
It is important to have knowledge of higher education from the point of view of scientific staff, particularly at a time when a trust reform and the discussion on freedom of expression are on the agenda.
