Doctoral student Haytham Ali, professor Gerrit Muller and postdoc Fahim Salim won the Best Paper Award for their article in Systems Engineering at a conference in Nice this summer.

Haytham Ali  was lead author on the article  “Applying Conceptual Modeling and Failure Data Analysis for “Actual Need” Exploration: Case Study for an Automated Parking System.”  (pdf)

The article is part of his doctoral work which was presented at the conference; MODERN SYSTEMS 2022, International Conference of Modern Systems Engineering Solutions. The conference was held in Nice at the end of July.

I feel so proud of the work. It’s nice to see that what you put in in terms of time, hard work and thought pays off. As Einstein once said “Where there’s a will there’s a way”.

There are several Norwegian companies with international positions and ambitions that collaborate in the H-SEIF project. Among them, Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace, Kongsberg Maritime, Yeti Move, TechnipFMC, ECIT, P-plan, Kartverket, Semcon, USN and Kongsberg Innovation. The project has been awarded nearly NOK 14.8 million from the Research Council.

The aim is to help Norwegian companies to structure and use big data in a way that can provide a decisive competitive advantage.

Much of the research takes place through USN’s expert environment within Systems Engineering at Kongsberg.

Haytham Ali says it is absolutely brilliant to be mentored by one of the best professors in Systems Engineering,  Gerrit Muller , who is also a distinguished lecturer at USN.

In addition, it is useful to collaborate with Dr.  Fahim Salim , as he has the ability to see issues from other perspectives. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all my colleagues, especially  Jamal Safi  and  Tommy Langen  as well as Professor  Kristin Falk  who leads this research project, says Haytham Ali.
