Future vision story: Norwegian Data Innovation Hub 2032

The year is 2032, and various actors from national and global industry and public sector have descended in Kongsberg for another conference hosted by the Norwegian Data Innovation Hub.

It is no coincidence that they meet here. The hub, which is a platform for partners to collaborate in an innovation ecosystem, makes the partners world leading in their fields. The hub is orchestrating private and public collaborations based on wise data decisions that put people and the planet in focus. Wise decisions that contribute to a net-positive transformation, i.e., products, services and systems that are not only sustainable, but help to restore and repair our natural and human systems. The collaboration has improved the partners’ decision making by using reliable, affordable, and large collections of data as its foundation.

The innovation ecosystem supports a more transparent and efficient way of innovating systems and services. Industry, academic, and public actors collaborate to utilize big data wisely in product, system, and service development.

The future vision story looking ten years into the future is developed based on collaboration between the 9 business partners who together with academia forms the HSEIFconsortium. By interacting, sharing knowledge, learning together and use the partner cases as a laboratory for research, the goal is to get new perspectives on how systems and services can be developed utilizing big data.

How did the Norwegian Data Innovation Hub get there?

It started with a R&D-collaboration project focusing on Harvesting value from Big data and Digitalization through a Human Systems Engineering Innovation Framework; HSEIF-2. The collaboration on how to utilize big data has resulted in sustainable, net-positive innovations that vary from autonomous vehicles to smart grids and better control of CO2 emissions. The hub has advanced the greater Kongsberg region in many ways. It has had positive ripple effects on businesses, academic institutions, and the public sector. Talent from all over the world is moving to the region, excited about a community that is actively working to tackle societal challenges by utilizing big data wisely. The hub influences the whole community and is now a place of great ideas on how to make the world a better place.
