Semcon

Semcon is an international product development company. We guide and assist customers developing solutions that matter, for people and for the planet. A sustainable future requires that we think anew – that we come up with new perspectives on sustainable technology solutions. Our key deliveries are focusing on digital, physical and sustainable solutions – from creative concepts to the delivery of production systems and digital information solutions.

Semcon and the project management are convinced that the collaboration, sharing and aligned research give valuable insight and learnings on development and application of methods to get value from data. During the project lifetime, we have used new insight to update our own product development process with enhanced focus on data, and particularly sustainability related data, throughout the process

Semcon has, together with several academic resources, tested out several cases and a range of methods within system thinking and design thinking. The research arenas have been both internally and within our client projects.

  • Digital twins
  • Energy management / IoT and informed energy decisions
  • Require management systems
  • Prolonged lifetime and sustainable use of resources

How to extract, validate, structure and sort data as a base for building a digital twin in medical proton cancer treatment was the first case early in the project.

Energy management through identification, extraction and presentation of data has been a focus both at our own premises, both in the workshop and test and in the office area, has been an important research arena and has given us updated knowledge enhancing our energy management offering. Presentation and visualization through dashboards available in the workshop and reception area, has triggered interest, curiosity and a better understanding of sustainable decisions.

Challenges in efficiently usage of Require management system’s (RMS’s) have been a topic in several project meetings and through wanted research areas. Semcon, in cooperation with the HSEIF-project, assessed and evaluated one off the shelf solution. JAMA was the software solution selected trough proof of concept, and this RMS was tested in several projects in Semcon. The results were input to a master thesis, that revealed key challenges and opportunities for improvement.

To challenge maintenance programs and prolong lifetime has been a client project but also an input to the HSEIF-research. The digitalization transition and the focus on sustainability has been called twin transitions, and innovations within structured use of data on our journey towards condition-based monitoring has given very valuable insight both to our clients, academia and ourselves.
